TDK Rightfully Shows Off With 10-Layer 320GB Optical Media

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

TDK Corp developed a write-once optical disc holding within 10 layers and 320 GBs of storage space. The media uses the same kind of blue laser as Blu-ray and manages to offer such large storage spaces with the help of its almost transparent outermost layer which reduces the need for a more powerful laser.

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

This one’s a promising development. Mobile and electronics giants Nokia, Samsung, Silicon Image, Sony and Toshiba are collaborating to create a new audio/video link that can carry HD content to HDTVs. The single-cable solution with a low pin count interface will also be able to provide power to the portable devices, as well as being able to support up to Full HD resolution digital video and HD audio. Mouth Drooling New GPU from ATI: Radeon HD 5800

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Although I do love AMD’s CPUs, I’m not a real fan of Radeon graphic cards (due to the driver related problems I have had with them). But still I do admire the technology and horsepower behind them. The Radeon HD 5800 series seems to be a monster that will be very hard to contain on a simple graphics board.

I’m still eagerly waiting for graphics cards that transmit bitstream HD audio though. HTPC users know what I mean… Press release after the break…

EDIT: ATI Radeon HD 5870 does bitstream HD audio! It’s only a matter of time cheaper models with bitstreaming get released too.

Zune HD Selling Fast

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Microsoft’s new beauty seems to be selling fast according to figures made public by Gizmodo. Amazon and BestBuy seem to have both the 16GB and 32GB versions on back-order, while Buy.com  and Newegg seem to be able to ship only the 32GB version for the time being. Microsoft does have both in stock, and with the option to engrave! So, in short, it’s easy to do the math for this one. If you create such a beauty and put in a flavor of great features… it sells!

The X-Fi HomeTheater HD has a few problems, but Auzentech’s on it!

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

It took Auzentech a while to get the product together but the X-Fi HomeTheater HD was finally released a few months back with all its HDMI 1.3a glory. After reports started coming in, claiming that the sound card caused static & noise on older Denon receivers, Auzentech approached the problem with maturity and started posting open letters to all its customers and the subscribers to their news feeds. They’re explaining every step they take towards fixing this issue and I must say I love Auzentech’s open approach. They reported that they reproduced the problem on a newly acquired Denon receiver (model dating back to before 2008) and I’m sure they will get the hang of it in no time.
